George Kenning was the son of Francis Kenning Derbyshire. The family moved to London and Francis set up a hardware store in 1878 in Clay Cross which became the foundation for the businessof George who became head of the business after his father and brother died and he developed it to fit in with the expanding motor trade. It became a private Ltd company in 1930. The company continued to trade in hardware and expanded into other car related areas.
