Formed in 1839 through the merger of the Preston & Wyre Railway and Harbour Company and the Preston & Wyre Dock Company. The line was formally opened on 15th July 1840. In 1946 it was amalgamted into the M & LR though it was not formally dissolved until 1st July 1888.
