Incorporated on 10 August 1857, opened for passengers on 18 June 1859 and for goods when an extension to Copper Mines Wharf opened in 1860. The company was always a close ally of the FR, which worked the line from the beginning and absorbed the Coniston Railway on 7 July 1862.
