Harborne Railway 1866 - 1922

occupation:
Railway company
Nationality:
British
Made:
Harborne and Monument Lane

The 2 miles 7 furlongs 4 chains between Harborne and the L&NWR at Monument Lane, Birmingham, sanctioned on 28 June 1866, were all that was left of a much larger scheme. A three-year extension of time kept the project alive, and when the line opened on 10 August 1874 it was worked by the L&NWR. That company made three offers to buy, in vain, and the company retained its identity until becoming an LMS subsidiary in 1923.
