German parentage; Studied at Dulwich College and gained a BSc in Engineering. Worked at J E Hough Ltd at the Edison-Bell works from 1922. He took out patents for the electric recording systems which he had invented for Edison Bell. In 1933 J E Hough ceased trading and so Voigt set up Voigt Patents. The new company worked closely with Lowther Manufacturing Company Ltd. In 1950, Voigt moved to Canada where he died in 1981.
