Authorised on 26 July 1910. It had outlets to five major collieries and was worked by the Great Central Railway from the start. It opened from Mansfield Colliery to Clipstone on 16 June 1913 and throughout on 16 September 1916 for goods, and 2 April 1917 for passengers. It was grouped with the London & North Eastern Railway.
