Incorporated on 5 August 1891 to build a line from Wood Lane to Bank, with a short extension to Liverpool Street also authorized on 28 June 1892. Became the original "Tuppeny Tube" because of its flat-rate fare. The company was vested in the LPTB with effect from 1 July 1933.
