The Steel Company of Wales was formed in 1947 and they decided to build two tinplate works in the Swansea and Llanelli districts In 1968 the Steel Company of Wales were taken over by British Steel and with further developments each works operated with four electrolytic continuous tinning lines, producing one point two million tons of tinplate per annum.
