Formed on 22 July 1847 by the amalgamation of the Buckingham and Brackley Junction Railway and the Oxford and Bletchley Junction Railway. It was worked from the start by L&NWR. That company leased it from 1 July 1851 and absorbed it on 21 July 1879.
