1802 - series of lectures in Vienna on "cranioscopy" (phrenology), banned by the Austrian government after religious leaders claimed they were offensive. Originator of phrenology and was the first to identify the gray matter of the brain with active tissue (neurons) and the white matter with conducting tissue (ganglia).
