1918-1922 - assistant works mananger at Daimler

1923 - chief engineer at Alvis, redesigns racing car, Alvis 12/50, which wins Brooklands 200 mile race, October 1923.

1928 - his front-wheel drive design Alvis wins class at Le Mans.

1950's - with some ex Alvis employees helps to form Cape Engineering in Warwick, England.

1952-1956 - Smith-Clarke at Cape Engineering modifies parts from Nuffield/Both iron lung or cabinet breathing machine. Smith-Clarke designs several types of mechanical respirator including the 'Smith-Clarke Senior' 'Iron Lung'.
