Authorized on 4 August 1845 to run between Nottingham and Ambergate where it was planned to link with the Manchester, Buxton & Matlock Railway. These two projects combined with two others on 16 July 1846 to form the Ambergate, Nottingham & Boston & Erewash Valley Railway.
