Received Parliamentary approval in 1845 but did not open until 1847. It was known as Castleman's Corkscrew because of the circuitous route it followed to cover the population in the area it served. It was promoted by a local solicitor Charles Castleman. It formed with the L&SWR in 1886.Lots of its services were withdrawn in the Beeching Axe. The line was closed to passengers in 1972.
