Formed in 1883 after Edison and Joseph Swan joined their companies to form Edison Swan United Electrical Light Co to manufacturer light bulb filaments. They set up a factory in Benwell, Newcastle and in 1886 took premises in Ponders End. The company became part of Associated Electrical Industries in 1928
