A hand-painted, large format magic lantern slide, painted by W R Hill and shown at the Royal Polytechnic Institution, London over Christmas 1875. This slide is from 'Gabriel Grub and the Grim Goblin' a production based on 'The Story of The Goblin Who Stole A Sexton' by Charles Dickens which appeared in 'The Pickwick Papers'.

A page from a prison record ledger, 1873. The page contains a portrait and information about a convicted criminal, Bridget Turner. Turner, a thirty-one-year-old prostitute, was arrested in Newcastle in September 1873 and sentenced to one months hard labour for stealing a shawl.
