Beyer Peacock engineering plans of railway carriages for Great Central Railway

Beyer Peacock engineering plans

Collection of detailed copy engineering drawings, 1945, Drawing no. Z6643. The Ceylon Government Railway Garratt was one of the last to be built under the original patent for the Garratt locomotive. The first locomotive (order no 1128) was produced in 1927 and was a prototype 2-6-2 + 2-6-2 for the mountain section of the railway. The 2-6-2 + 2-6-2 was compared against the customary 4-6-0 + 0-6-4 and was found to make a 20% saving in coal consumption. The engineering drawings in this collection are from the second order of 8 engines (order no 11131) acquired by Ceylon Government Railways in 1945.
