A photograph of an inmate of Pentonville Prison, London, making carpets or matting on a loom, taken by Captain Lewis in 1871. This man sits at his loom dressed in prison uniform. Around him are arranged the basic contents of his cell, a mattress, stool and table for books and other items. Propped at the back of the table is a list of rules and regulations for working in the prison.

Locomotive worksplate, "Manning Wardle & Co No 517 BEM Leeds 1875", cast brass, oval, ex Class M 0-6-0ST "Stanley", built March 1875 for Scott & Edwards, Melmerby, contractors to the Brading-Bembridge Branch, Isle of Wight, worked Bembridge Branch under contract to Isle of Wight Railway until October 1898 when renamed "Bembridge", sold to War Department July 1916 and transferred to Fouant Military Railway, Wiltshire, scrapped 1920.

An albumen cabinet card photographic portrait entitled 'Sir John Herschel', copied in about 1872 from an original large format albumen print taken by Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879) in 1867. Sir John Frederick William Herschel (1792-1871) was secretary of the Royal Society and President of the Royal Astronomical Society.

One in a series of hand-painted magic lantern slides entitled 'The Elephant's Revenge', made by Newton and Company in 1870. The series tells the story of what happens when a man taunts an elephant. This is the fifth slide in the series, showing the angry elephant grabbing a man by his neck with its trunk.
