Matrix side-hole drilling machine, Plant No.990, made by the Lanston Monotype Corporation, Salford, Redhill, Surrey, 1925. Used for the production system for 0.2 x 0.2 inch Monotype matrices, equipped for automatic handling of matrices from input to output galleys. The machine is used to form the hole for the matrix case retaining rods. Two opposing drills nearly meet during drilling. In a second operation, one of the drills clears the hole. Mounted on bench, with machines Nos.986, 2080 & 1888. Bench has electrical and compressed air services incorporated.
