Black & white photographs of British Railways steam locomotives in various locations, including depots and works. Photographs taken by the donor's late husband, Mr. Bruce James Hobbs, during his railway career. Mr. Hobbs was an apprentice at Crewe, one of the last intake to be trained on steam locomotives. During his career he worked out of Willesden, Cricklewood and Bletchley depots, before moving to Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. For the last years of his career he was part of the breakdown gang.

15 black & white photographs of various sizes showing interior and exterior views of the Copt Hill Engine and Drum House on the Hetton Colliery railway. A stationary engine in the engine house hauled wagons part of the way up the incline to Warden Law. Some of the photographs include the donor, Mr. A. E. Swinton, while others may be copies of earlier images. The stationary engine depicted was built by Murray's of Chester-le-Street and installed in 1836.

Two black & white prints of a group of LMS staff at Derby Locomotive Works in front of diesel locomotive no. 10000. The group includes H. G. Ivatt and the donor's father G. Foulk. One of the prints is annotated on the reverse with the names of the group members. Derby neg. no. 35866 (extant in NRM collection).
