This letter refers to the first Svedberg ultracentrifuge to be used in Britain. It was installed in the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine in 1936-1937, where it was used in biomedical research for nearly 30 years. Svedberg was awarded the Nobel prize for chemistry in 1926 for his work on disperse systems, including the design of the ultracentrifuge as a research tool.
