Lewis Morley Archive

The Lewis Morley Archive contains material spanning Morley’s entire career but is particularly rich in content from the 1960s. During this period Morley photographed actors and productions at the Royal Court Theatre, was resident photographer for Peter Cook’s Establishment Club and photographed many rising stars and figures from popular culture, including Christine Keeler during ‘The Profumo Affair.’

The archive contains a variety of photographs including vintage contact sheets and photographic prints (some signed), reference photographs and proofs, polaroids and transfers, informal snapshots, photographs of exhibitions and events, photographs from Morley’s personal collection and test strip images.

There is also a substantial number of negatives (estimated at 200,000 individual negatives), some of which have been bound in files alongside illustrative prints, noting the name of the subject, where they were taken and the name of the assignment. Themes include advertising, fashion and magazines, portraits, reportage, still life plus theatre and television.

The archive also contains artworks and photograph props, personal and professional correspondence, exhibition materials, media carriers, personal papers, posters, published materials and slides and transparencies.
