Bone divination set, carved decoration, from Zambezi, south east Africa

Carved from bone, this decorated set was used for divination. Divination is the attempt to predict the future from signs and symbols and has been used for thousands of years to forecast the course of an illness or determine the best treatment. When cast the pattern made by the bone pieces was interpreted by a diviner. The set came originally from along the Zambezi River in south east Africa.
