Metal spike fitting into short wooden handle, 'el mikhray' in vernacular, used for insertion of setons, Kordofan peoples, Sudanese, 1880-1908
This instrument was used to puncture a fold of skin. A horse or giraffe hair was then passed through and loosely tied to treat inflammation, especially of the eye.
