Medicine pouch with contents, by Bach and Riedel of Berlin, probably carried by stretcher bearers with some medical training and used in German Army during The First World War, 1914-1918

This leather pouch contains first aid equipment – bandages and a number of medical treatments. Made by a Berlin-based company, Bach & Riedel, the kit was probably carried by stretcher bearers who had had some medical training, in the German Army during the First World War.

Drugs in the pouch include tincture of opium, which would have been used as a strong painkiller for those wounded on the front line.
