Iron artificial right hand and forearm, with jointed thumb and fingers

Artificial iron arm, for left hand below-elbow amputee. Artificial limbs such as these were expensive items made by armourers, and they allowed wearers who had lost a limb in combat to continue with their fighting career. Believed to date from the 17th century, some examples of such arms have recently been recognised as later copies.
