Working in a dusty environment can cause breathing difficulties and health problems, especially to the lungs. Coal miners and asbestos workers are particularly at risk. Powered by battery, this NCB/MRE portable dust sampler was used by staff during mine surveys.
The sampler is from the Occupational Health Department at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The School was set up in 1929 to study public health; the Occupational Health Department was added in 1956.
