Medal of the [Royal] Society of Arts, awarded to Cornelius Varley in 1831 for his "Vial" microscope, diameter 50mm, depth 4mm, silver, English. Rim: holes for former suspension ring.[?]. Obverse: legend, Arts and Commerce Promoted; heads of Athena and another, profile to left; artist on base of Athena, W Wyon. Reverse, laurel garland, legends Mr Cornelius Varley. MDCCCXXXI. For his microscope for Live Objects. Socv Insd. London 1753.
