Medal of the [Royal] Society of Arts, awarded to Cornelius Varley in 1847 for an apparatus for facilitating the use of large Gregorian telescopes. Silver; diameter 50mm, depth 4mm. Obverse: legend, Arts and Commerce Promoted; heads of Athena and another, profile to left; artist on base of Athena, W Wyon. Reverse, legends: To Mr. C.J. Varley, MDCCCXLVII. For an Apparatus for Facilitating the Use of large Gregorian Telescopes. Socv. Insd. London 1753.
