Robert W Paul (1869-1943) was one of the founders of the British film industry. An engineer by profession, he became an inventor and manufacturer of cinematographic equipment, as well as a producer, cinematographer and showman. Paul's film equipment was widely used in the early years of the 20th century and until 1905 his company Animatograph Works Ltd was England's largest film producer.
