Glass bottle Liv.52 tablets by the Himalaya Drug Company, India, in box 1970-1981

These liver pills were imported from Bombay (now Mumbai) in India during the 1970s. The formula is known as Liv 52. It is one of the biggest selling Ayurvedic products in the world. It claims to promote optimum liver function and protect it. The product was developed in the 1950s. Its origins are in Ayurveda. This ancient Indian medical tradition encompasses a way of life. It is still practiced. Preventing disease is as important as curing it. Ayurveda is derived from two words: ayus, meaning “life”, and veda, meaning “knowledge”.
