1x120 ml bottle of Aventyl liquid (nortriptyline hydrochloride), by Eli Lilly, 1960-1985

Aventyl is the brand name for nortriptyline hydrochloride. This antipsychotic drug treats depressive illness in adults and some sleep disorders in children. Antipsychotic drugs were introduced in the 1950s. They increase or decrease chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters which influence activities such as sleep, moods and emotions.

Nortriptyline hydrochloride is a tricyclic antidepressant. It has less of a sedative effect on the body than similar drugs such as Anafranil (see 1986-1248/48). This bottle contains 120ml of Aventyl liquid. It was manufactured by pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company Limited.
