Oak medicine chest with a hinged lid, swivel fronts, iron fittings and lock with key. Contains 11 bottles, 4 pewter containers (1 labelled), scales and other items, including 2 small pieces of inscribed bone. Writing on the packets of bone seems to be German, although it is poorly legible. 18th century.
Inside this oak medicine chest are eleven glass bottles, four pewter containers, weighing scales and other accessories. Medicine chests were usually found in apothecary shops and pharmacies, but others would be made for wealthy families and kept as household medicine chests.
