Experimental steel alloys made by Michael Faraday (1820-1824)

These are samples of experimental steel alloys made by Michael Faraday (1791-1867) between 1820 and 1824. Faraday is generally considered the greatest of all experimental physicists and discovered electromagnetic induction, the laws of electrolysis and the rotation of polarised light by magnetism. These steel samples, which were to be used for surgical instruments, are examples of his experimental work.
