Railway carriage, Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, brake composite/observation. Saloon, No 6992, built 1897, (narrow gauge).
The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway was a narrow gauge railway opened in 1898. Intended to link Barnstaple, served by the Devon & Somerset Railway, with the two villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, the L&BR was a picturesque route but did not prove to be economically viable.
After being absorbed by the Southern Railway it became clear that the Railway was not meeting requirements and it was eventually closed in 1935. Much of the rolling stock was scrapped, although some coaches, including this example, were recycled for use as garden sheds or summer houses.
