Signal box nameboard, Tees Valley, white with black text and border, London & North Eastern Railway.
Tees Valley (Junction) was on the Darlington to Tebay line (the route over Stainmoor Summit), about two miles west of Barnard Castle, at the location where the line to Middleton-in-Teesdale left the Stainmoor line. The main line to Tebay closed in 1962, when the location ceased to be a junction and was closed as a signalbox. Services to Middleton-in-Teesdale lingered on until 1965, when this was also closed and the rails were then lifted.
You can now use parts of the line (including Tees Valley Junction) as a footpath and cycleway.
