Painting, watercolour and gouache on board, The Coronation on the East Coast entering Scotland by Frank Mason, about 1938. Depicts the Coronation train service hauled by an A4 class locomotive, with a 'beavertail' observation saloon at the rear. The train is heading north after crossing the England-Scotland border. In the background are Longstone lighthouse, Holy Island (Lindisfarne) Castle, Farne Island Priory, Dunstanburgh Castle and Bamburgh Castle. Original artwork for London & North Eastern Railway poster. It was also titled The coast north of Berwick, and was published as part of the It's quicker by rail series. Size 830 x 1270mm.
