Painting, gouache (?) on board, Fenland, King John (1167 - 1216) by Lance Cattermole, 1960. Depicts the loss of the Crown Jewels in the Wash in 1216. The illustration shows King John, bearded and wearing chain mail armour, a crown and blue cloak, riding a chestnut horse. Behind him is a knight, and a flag with the English coat of arms of three lions on a red ground. At right is the royal baggage train, with wagons, horses and men floundering in the water. Original artwork for a British Railways (Eastern Region) poster, part of the See Britain by Train series.
