Alternative Interpretation – Quote about this artwork from a community member with lived experience of disability, D/deafness and/or neurodivergence. Given as part of the ‘Go as you Please’, Curating for Change, exhibition project: “Beaches are near impossible in wheelchairs. It's such a shame. I mean, I like them, and I go up and down the promenade. Maybe if there's a pier, I can go down the pier. But going on the beaches takes a lot. Very lot of doing. You see things which say hike for health or travel for your health – visit a beach, or have a stroll around the reservoir, but it's not always an easy stroll around for some people. Finding somewhere that you can push yourself around in a manual wheelchair is very difficult. Actually, it’s a mission! But then you feel a great sense of accomplishment when you've done these things. It almost amplifies the experience of doing it because you think, you know, it took a lot of effort for me to do this.”
