Poster, London, Midland & Scottish Railway, Stirling Castle by Christopher Clark R.I, about 1938. Depicts the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders marching into the castle, led by the Pipe Major and pipers. Accompanying text reads "The grand old castle of Stirling, former residence of Scottish kings, has always been the key to the Highlands. Men said 'Who holds Stirling holds Scotland'. The battered old facade, the heavily barred windows, speak of mediaeval wars; so that even today the quiet, time-mellowed beauty of the old pile is a fit setting for the gay tartans of the famous Scottish regiment (the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) which still garrisons it. In Mr Christopher Clark's painting the Great Hall, for the holding of parliament and state ceremonies is on the right and the barred windows are those of the Queen's Bed Chamber and the King's Presence Chamber". To the left of the text are the letters "LMS", to the right the company crest. Additional text in the margins reads "ERO 53351, Printed in Great Britain by Jordison, London". Format: quad royal. Dimensions: 40 x 50 inches, 1016 x 1270 mm
