Model cannon used for demonstration and teaching, maker unknown,1854-1881. Composed of four parts: barrel; base plate and fixings; breech block; and fluted rod.

This model cannon was made from an amalgamation of parts. The barrel appears to be older than the base plate, breech block and fluted rod. While the maker is unknown, it is very likely that it was intended to be used to demonstrate alternative methods of stabilizing a projectile in flight. This was during a period of increased ordinance experimentation by the British military in collaboration with scientists, engineers and makers between 1854 and 1881.
