DAF 'Daffodil' car, 1965. Chassis no. 131639, engine no. AG 137108, reg. no. GLX 278 C. Today DAF is best known as a truck manufacturer. The company originated in 1928 but it was not until after the Second World War that they saw their opportunity in the lack of luxury cars and trucks. DAF produced their first car in 1959; it was the first car with a continuously variable transmission and was very successful. This is the DAF Daffodil, first produced in 1961 along with the DAF 750, a very similar car but without some luxurious fittings. The Daffodil proved more popular and the 750 was taken out of production in 1963. The Daffodil continued to be produced until 1967, when it was replaced by the more powerful DAF 33.
