Manuscript notebook belonging to John Urpeth Rastrick used to record details of the Rainhill locomotive trials, 1829.
This is John Rastrick’s manuscript notebook from the Rainhill Trials, where the Stephensons won the competition to provide locomotives for the world’s first inter-city route, the L&MR. Rastrick was one of the three judges. Ironically, Rocket, the locomotive that won the trials, rendered Rastrick’s own locomotive Agenoria outdated.
