Perspective view of the concourse of Waterloo Station, London, as seen from the first floor British Rail Southern Region Board Room windows. Includes both steam and electric trains, porters, cars, passengers, indicator board and clock; relatives, artist and politicians of the day amongst the travelling public. General activity any day in the early 1960s.
In 1966 the Science Museum commissioned this painting by Terence Cuneo for inclusion in the museum’s Land Transport Gallery.
When finished, Cuneo produced a detailed overlay of all the people who appear in the painting, from celebrities, politicians to members of his family.
A notable addition to Cuneo’s work is the inclusion of a tiny mouse hidden in the painting.
