Model of the Airship "Dupuy de Lome" (1872), scale 1:50

Model of the Airship 'Dupuy de Lome' (1872)(scale 1:50). During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, the French Government commissioned a marine engineer called Dupuy de Lome to build a dirigible. The airship made its only flight on 2nd February, 1872. The Dupuy de Lome was 'man-powered' in that it had a large four-bladed propeller which was driven by gearing and hand-cranks operated by eight men harnessed to it.
