Letter written by William Thomson (later Lord Kelvin) relating to the machinery for laying the Atlantic Telegraph Cable, Glasgow, Scotland, 2nd March 1858.
This letter was written by William Thomson, later Lord Kelvin (1824-1907), to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Telegraph Company, informing them of a proposed improvement to the machinery for laying the transatlantic telegraph cable. Thomson joined the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Telegraph Company in 1856 and was involved in both the 1857 and 1858 attempts to lay the cable.
