Moy 'Kemp-Duddington' telerecording camera, Ernest F Moy Limited, 1951.
Telerecording camera, made by Ernest F Moy Limited in 1951.
Before the widespread use of video tape to record television broadcasts, telerecording cameras were used which filmed directly from a TV screen built into the casing. In the UK, these were called telerecordings or television film recordings, and in the USA, Kinescope recordings. Even when video tape became available, it was significantly more expensive than film, telerecording thus remained in use for several more years.
One of the first programmes to be telerecorded in the UK was the Royal Wedding in 1948.
