This is part of the final amplifier unit from the Marconi Company 17kW television transmitter used at the BBC’s Alexandra Palace station for the world’s first public high-definition television service introduced in 1936. The service was run from 1936 to 1956 excepting one-year’s stoppage during the Second World War.
