Spectra Colour Studio television receiver, manufactured by Nordmende 1967-1970, Germany. Features four picture tubes, one colour and three monochrome.
This expensive colour television receiver cost £1768 when new and allowed you to watch four channels at once; one on the large colour screen and three on the much smaller monochrome screens.
Described by the makers as ‘Specially designed observation monitor for television creative staff and journalists’. It was used by some sports journalists (and wealthy fans) so they could watch all the sport on all the channels on a Saturday afternoon. It was the fore-runner of the modern PIP (picture-in-picture) facility found on some current sets. Despite its innovative style, it was not a commercial success.
