US Army Signal Corps 500kHz dinghy radio transmitter BC-778-E, serial no. 2439, made by Bendix Aviation, 1944

This was an aviation dinghy emergency radio transmitter used by the US military during the later stages of the Second World War. It was a hand-cranked emergency radio for use when aviators crashed and needed to use their inflatable dinghy. A light would turn on when it was powered up. An earlier model, the BC-778-D, was based on the German Notsender NS2 emergency dinghy transmitter.
