Antiference Band I (Channel 4) television aerial, "H" type, on mounting pole, manufactured by Antiference Limited, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, 1957-1985.
As independent television came in new types of aerials were developed to receive signals in different bands. Each band used a different aerial, and as a result each aerial looked different, so households soon collected a range of different aerials as they bought televisions that could receive more and more channels. The 'H' antennas were introduced in 1957, as it was discovered that the older 'X' antennas were being bent by large birds landing on them.
